After nearly a lifetime of discovering truths in design, Ettore concedes, “The long mental adventure lies perhaps in this
permanent, desired and liberating uncertainty, in this absence of coded clarity, in this continual rocking from one mental zone to another and another.”21 However, only death itself can abort Ettore Sottsass’s ceaseless pursuit for truth through design expression.


The glare diminishes, taking with it the shadow which disguises the harbinger of our design destiny. Once again our sagacious professor’s sublime presence vaporizes in the cadmium red light and the significance of his message inversely intensifies with the fading glow between the concrete arches. He quietly imparts to us that design value is not a destination, it is a search. The implication of the future auxiliary of “will” is not a resolution, it is today’s determination, as it was yesterday’s intention, as it will be tomorrow’s compulsion. The focus is in the cognizant awareness of what value should be, so that its realization can be better designed. Awakening from this philosophical trance, the lumbar region acknowledges the stiff angle of the Sensor seat back and is grateful to the optimistic cerebrum for more conscientious design.
